PS3 Emulator RPCS3 Now Supports Save States

RPCS3 is one of the most feature-packed and reliable PS3 emulators out there. The emulator is capable of flawlessly running around 2240 PS3 titles. The recent RPCS3 update has introduced a major new feature namely save states, which will allow players to instantly suspend and resume their progress in any game at any time.

It’s worth noting that, Save States is not the Save Data for your games. Rather save states are snapshots of whatever was happening on RPCS3 at the exact moment when they were performed.

This is useful in many scenarios, for instance, when you are in the middle of a tough encounter in a game and you do not want to fight through a bunch of enemies to get back to where you were, in this scenario you can simply load the Save State you created and pick off exactly from the moment where you took the snapshot, saving you a lot of time and hassle.

If you use RPCS3 on a regular basis then you can perform a Save State at any time using the keyboard shortcut CTRL + SAVE while playing.

Kindly avoid using the save state feature in these two situations,

  • When the game is in the middle of saving (i.e. when you see the autosave icon during game-play, or when you are manually saving)
  • When the game is installing its game data (applies to disc games)

RPCS3 developer AnnieLeo in a Reddit post explained that,

“We didn’t think it was realistically feasible several years ago, but after a lot of work, it’s here! Some savestates will be of a couple of GBs of size depending on the game, and there are still certain limitations, but those are just small issues in the grand scheme of things.”
